Having a junk food problem? Not for long.
According to menshealth.com, research now provides direct evidence on how to do away with your delicious foe. Most diets and health advice circulating the Internet might call for portion control of your favorite junk food. They claim you can still have them, just don’t eat a lot. Research has uncovered a different approach. Following the food logs of 367 people trying to lose weight, researchers found that those that cut out the junk food altogether had less desire for this type of food. The participants who held onto their favorite junk food had no change in cravings for it and were prone to junk food relapse.
Here’s where portion control fails…
We condition ourselves constantly throughout our lives. When we have cravings, they are usually coupled with internal stimuli such as stress, or even external ones such as the time of day. We positively reinforce this conditioning every time we slip and eat the junk foods we are trying to avoid. According to this article, remove the positive reinforcement and your cravings will disappear.
